Sermon in a nutshell: Matthew 1: 12-17

Sermon in a nut shell

God gives us the second chance (and many more)!

The Bible says that after the deportation life went on! (Matt. 1:12 following) Deportation is a national crisis. All the nobles and the leaders were captured and the temple was destroyed. Most of the population was deported to a foreign land, to Babylon. After this deportation, we would think that the life would be cut off.  No more life is possible. That was not the case, however!

The Bible says that fourteen more generations were allowed in the foreign land, in the Babylonian land, till we have the Messiah! We do not have much information about those people in the line: Jechoniah, Salathiel, Zerubbabel,  Abihud, Eliakim, Azor, Zadok, Achim, Eleazar, Matthan, Jacob, and even Joseph, the husband of Mary. Still one thing is clear: God was working all the time through these people and in the history. When all the kings in the history failed, God prepared a King of Kings beyond the History!

So, if you have a crisis in your life, do not say that your life is over! God is still working on in your life. We have gone through great depression as a nation and it was actually a great time to produce a great leader like the president Roosevelt. In the Bible, after a long list of names, we have Messiah! Great hardship can produce great leaders! We can go through tough times together just to produce great leaders who know how to overcome difficulties in life.  God is always preparing the better opportunity for you and me! Are there any problems that are greater than God’s power? No!  With this conviction, let us pray to the almighty God and rise up again!

Questions for meditation and small group discussions

  1. What was the most difficult crisis in your life and how did you overcome it?
  2. What has God done for you, would you confess, in the whole process?
  3. To whom would you tell how wonderful our God is who has made all the difference?
