Psalm 5

I believe in God’s faithfulness.

     Many times, we have occasions that make us to doubt God’s faithfulness.  The success of the wicked people, the fortune of the liars, and the happiness of the greedy ones; they all make us suspicious of God’s faithfulness. Sufferings of innocent citizens, misfortunes of the helpless children, and the oppression of millions of hopeless people also frustrate us. Is God able and willing to keep the laws that God has set up in this universe?

   So, the psalmist cries out: “Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray.” In the middle of all these happenings, however, the psalmist knows that the one to whom she is praying is GOD! She also has confidence that her prayer was heard: “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.”

    We do not understand the whole system how God runs the universe. However, we know one thing for sure: God is the God of Goodness. The psalmist and all of us can have confidence in the final picture of the whole history. Goodness will prevail: “For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil will not sojourn with you.” It all depends on God’s character.

     Once we know who our God is we do not have to worry about the end result. We already know what is going to happen: “The boastful will not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.”

    The destiny of the evil doers and the fate of the doers of the laws will be different: “But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in awe of you.”

    This knowledge will protect us from the temptation of doubts. So, we pray to God to help us to stay in the right paths: “Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. For there is no truth in their mouths; their hearts are destruction; their throats are open graves; they flatter with their tongues.”

    Even when God does not punish the evil doers, they will harvest what they sew. “Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of their many transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.”

   In the end, those who fear God will have joy: “But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, so that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover them with favor as with a shield.” With this faith we worship God today!
