Psalm 8

I am valuable

    Self-worth comes from divine majesty. When our parents say that they love us, it was so natural that we do not give any attention to the love. We take parental love for granted. However, if the president of the USA calls us this morning and says, “I have noticed you and I just love you!” it will make our day! When an important person takes notice of our work, our personality, or our look and comments on us, we will take it a special treat.

     How about the care of the Creator of the whole universe? David was so amazed when he ponders God’s creation:  “O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”

    God is not only powerful but also empowering His creation. God can give life to lifeless and  power to the powerless. God can give songs to the despaired and shout to the silent. David continues praising God: “Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.”

    When we think about God’s majesty, we have to wonder why God pay attention to us, small dots in the endless universe: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?”

     God does not just be mindful of humans. God gives special status to us: ^“Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,  all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,  the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.”

     When we realize our responsibility and trust that God puts in us, we have to worship God with all our strength, heart, and mind: O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
