Psalm 52

Psalm 52

One of the behaviors that God does not like is deceit. Honesty and integrity are virtues that the Bible honors. In this psalm, David is deploring the deceitful act of Doeg, the Edomite. Because of his lies, the high priest Ahimelech and all the people of Nob were killed. Partial truth became lies and it resulted the destruction of a city. However, it is not just Doeg but all of us who need to hear this warning: “Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long you are plotting destruction. Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth. Selah. You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah.”

People lie because they do not fear God. They do not believe that there is a Judge who can see through our hearts and mind. When we believe in the righteous Judge, we would not lie and we would not be frustrated because of those who prosper with deceit. God will straighten up all affairs. “The righteous will see, and fear, and will laugh at the evildoer, saying, ‘See the one who would not take refuge in God, but trusted in abundant riches, and sought refuge in wealth!’ But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.”

Genuine thanksgiving and praise come from upright life style. When we fear God and keep our integrity, we are ready to praise God and give thanks to God. Faith, Hope, and Love go together. “I will thank you forever, because of what you have done. In the presence of the faithful I will proclaim your name, for it is good.”

Let us keep our honest tongue and thankful heart. God will be pleased through our lives.
