Psalm 61

Psalm 61

When we are sick, we feel insecure.

In this psalm, David cried out to God in his bed. He was so sick and he felt he might die. He even said that he called to God from the “end of the earth.” Even when he was chased by Saul, he did not lose his heart like this. Sickness is one of the conditions that make us weak both in body and in spirit.

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I; for you are my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me abide in your tent forever, find refuge under the shelter of your wings. Selah”

God who saved before will save us again!

In his sick bed, David thought about all the things that God had done for him. Then he renewed his vow to trust God again. This was a different type of threat to his life. God saved from other types of enemies and God would save us from this one also: “For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. Prolong the life of the king; may his years endure to all  generations! May he be enthroned forever before God; appoint steadfast love and faithfulness to watch over him!

Why I should live more? I want to praise God continuously!

To David, the reason for his prolonged life was clear! He wanted to praise God more. If that is the reason for us to live more, we join to David’s choir!

“So I will always sing praises to your name, as I pay my vows day after day.”
