Psalm 95
What makes worship worshipful?
Joy, praise, truth, humble obedience, and action based on the words of God! During the worship, we feely joy because we praise God. We understand that God is the truth when we heard the words. Then we learned how to serve the world through Sacraments and follow Jesus through humble obedience. That leads us into actions based on the words of God. Worship now begins in our lives.
“O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed.”
God made them all!
God made depth and height. God made sea and the dry land. The same God is making depth and height in our lives. The same God allows sea and dry land in our life journey. So be it! We are not going to complain as the Israelites did both at Meribah and at Massah in the wilderness. We will rejoice in God.
“O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would listen to his voice!8 Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your ancestors tested me, and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
Worshippers of God will have peace!
When we worship idols, we have to keep running and keep going to satisfy both idols and us. However, when we worship God, we do not have to run the world! We know that God is in charge and we can rest in God. We can have peace!
“For forty years I loathed that generation and said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they do not regard my ways.’ Therefore in my anger I swore, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’”
