Sing to the Lord!
What is the most meaningful thing in our life? We can do many things but we are most satisfied when we do what we are created for. We are created for worship and praise. We are designed to praise God. When we worship and praise God, we are in union with God. When we do other things, if we do them as if we worship and praise God, they will be meaningful and satisfying. Otherwise, they do not fill our hearts. The psalmist encourages us to do this most meaningful act in our life:
“O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods.”
Idols would not satisfy us!
The reason why we cannot feel satisfaction in doing other things is this: We worship idols when we do other things. Idols are the things that we love more than God. We love money, power, and sex. Idols are all related to those three. When we use those three in the way to worship and praise God, they are means of mission and channels of God’s blessing. Otherwise they are idols that cannot satisfy us.
“For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth.”
Mission is offering worship to other nations.
It is not enough for us to worship and praise God. We want to share this joy with others. That is why we go mission. We want to build up those worship congregations all over the world. We go mission. We want to share this Good News before they go too far in the wrong direction. Judgment is near.
“Say among the nations, ‘The Lord is king! The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.’ Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord; for he is coming, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth.”
