Where is God?
God is everywhere. Some people think that God is in the ARK! Some think that God is in a TEMPLE! Now it is getting bigger. Some people think that God is in ZION. They are all RIGHT! That is why David tried to bring the ARK into JERUSALEM! Then he wanted to build a TEMPLE for the LORD!
“O Lord, remember in David’s favor all the hardships he endured; how he swore to the Lord and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, ‘I will not enter my house or get into my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.’”
God was pleased with the efforts to invite God into their house!
Our God is a personal God. He loves to have personal relationship. That is why when David tried to make a place God, God loved him. David wanted to have close relationship with God. David had that desire. God blessed his desire to serve God with all his heart! Everywhere he went, he proclaimed that he would build a dwelling place for God!
“We heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. ‘Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.’ Rise up, O Lord, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your faithful shout for joy.”
God also promised to build a house for David!
When David tried to build a house for the Lord, God said to him that God did not need any house or ark. God clearly stated that the whole universe is God’s creation and God did not need a dwelling place. However, the effort to bring God into close relationship was appreciated and rewarded with counter resolution to build a royal house for David “as long as the house keeps God’s commandments”!
“For your servant David’s sake do not turn away the face of your anointed one. The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: ‘One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I shall teach them, their sons also, forevermore, shall sit on your throne.’ For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation: ‘This is my resting place forever; here I will reside, for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless its provisions; I will satisfy its poor with bread. Its priests I will clothe with salvation, and its faithful will shout for joy. There I will cause a horn to sprout up for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. His enemies I will clothe with disgrace, but on him, his crown will gleam.’”
ARK, TEMPLE, AND JERUSALEM (ZION) are meaningful only when people keep God’s commandments and practice them.
God loved the invitation to come into the small ark! God was pleased when David tried to build a Temple for him. God promised to dwell in Zion with the people of God. However, God had to leave all of the above later because people cast out God by their actions. Action speaks louder than words! God knows what we want. When we want to live with God, God will. When we kick out God, God will leave us, our churches, and our country! Let us invite God into our lives by our actions!
